A good carrier has wide padded shoulder straps and a waist belt, so your baby's weight is shared between shoulders and hips. Whenever you carry your baby:
• Your baby's face is visible, chin off the chest • Your baby is high enough to kiss the top of the head • Legs in an "M" shape, knees slightly above hips • The head is supported until the neck is strong
One diaper for every 2–3 hours plus a spare, wipes, rash cream, a change of clothes, a bottle or nursing cover, a small towel and a plastic bag for used diapers.
• 0–3 months: bright colours and face-to-face talking are the best play • 3–6 months: rattles and soft toys that are easy to hold • 6–12 months: teethers, toys that make sounds, big blocks
Remove toys with small detachable parts, loose seams or cracks. Never hang toys on a string around the neck. Keep soft toys and pillows out of the sleep space of babies under 12 months.
From the minimum weight on the carrier's label. Support the head until the neck is strong and keep carries short.
A soft silicone teether, chilled briefly in the fridge. Don't freeze it.
For the first three months, your face and voice are the best toys. After that, a light rattle they can hold.
